Coin, Spain, May 10, 2024 — S.Lab, a producer of eco-friendly packaging solutions, announces the opening of its first fully automated production line in Coin, Spain. It’s a first step forward in the company’s mission to revolutionize the packaging industry with strong, reliable, and waste-free natural replacement of the foamed plastic.
The automated production process minimizes the need for continuous human intervention in operations. Processes involved in packaging unit production are efficiently managed using patented technologies that include robotic arms, forming robots, computer vision, and a wide network of sensors and indicators. This cutting-edge automation guarantees precision, consistency, and efficiency throughout the manufacturing process, simultaneously driving down costs and mitigating human error.
“Our production line can operate continuously, leading to increased productivity and output compared to manual production methods, and designed to optimize resource utilization, including raw materials, energy, and water. Automation provides greater control over the production process, allowing for real-time monitoring and analysis to optimize production efficiency and quality,” said Eugene Tomilin, CTO and co-founder of S.Lab.
S.Lab is dedicated to minimizing the environmental impact of single-use packaging waste while helping businesses to unlock sustainability. In February, 2022 Ukrainian startup had to relocate its business abroad. With support of CADE (Andalusian Entrepreneurship Centers), Coín city Council and local government of Andalusia S.Lab found its new home in Málaga, Spain.
“Spain offers a welcoming environment and abundant agricultural waste resources, making it an ideal location for our production facility,” said Julia Bialetska, CEO of S.Lab. “By sourcing materials locally and investing in innovative technologies, we are not only reducing environmental impact but also contributing to the local economy and supporting farmers in the region. We work hard to promote usage of green packaging and its associated business and profit benefits for companies of all sizes. Also, we’re looking forward to fostering collaboration with local academic institutions, to drive innovation and advancement in the European packaging industry.”
S.Lab’s material has the same features as polystyrene in terms of thermal insulation and water resistance, but after the usage it will fully biodegrade in the soil. It finds application across various industries: cushioning for cosmetics, lodgements for electronics, packaging for decor and fashion, thermally insulating boxes for food and pharmaceuticals and many more. Automated production line is a first step towards mini-factories to produce natural packaging. These factories can be put into a shipping container and be deployed at the customers premises to produce packaging on-site, so customers can save costs on logistics and reduce CO2 emissions associated with it.
Special guests were present at the opening, among them: D. Miguel Briones Artacho, Territorial delegate of Educational Development and Vocational Training and University, Research and Innovation in Malaga, Francisco Santos Cantos, Mayor of Coin, Alberto de Azevedo Hermida, Design and Strategies Coordinator at Andalucía Emprende, Andalusian Public Foundation, representatives of University of Malaga, CADE (Andalusian Entrepreneurship Centers), and Coín city Council.
